At “The Medicine Box”
May Su is a medical doctor in New South Wales, Australia. She started her medical degree at the University of Adelaide and later transferred to the program at the University of New South Wales, Sydney Australia, graduating in December 2002. May’s undergraduate elective term was in Scotland, United Kingdom, in the cities of Edinburgh and Livingston. Furthermore, she spent a voluntary two month studying at the prestigious Christian Medical College in Vellore, India.
Medical internship and residency was based in the former Illawarra Area Health Service, primarily at The Wollongong Hospital and Shellharbour Hospital. While in the Illawarra, May held the position of RMO Representative to the Area Network Committee of The Wollongong Hospital Resident Medical Officer (RMO) Association. In that capacity, she had her “finger on the pulse” of the machinations, issues and policies at the level of the area health service as well as injecting issues and opinions relevant to junior medical officers (JMOs) into the group awareness of upper management. The RMO Association at that period enjoyed some notoriety of being relatively active at an industrial level and was able to effect many changes to the benefit of JMOs.
General Practice training
In her RMO1 year, May applied for general practice training and was accepted by the former Sydney Institute of General Practice Education and Training. As part of her training, May worked for six months in a special skills term as a psychiatry registrar at Shellharbour Hospital. She spent a further six months working in paediatrics at the Sydney Children’s Hospital, Randwick. May successfully passed the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners examination and was admitted as a Fellow of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2007.
May is currently a full-time General Practitioner in Cremorne.
May has a strong interest in mental health, particularly psychological therapy in general practice. She has completed a masters degree in mental health through the NSW Institute of Psychiatry. May has also been involved with medical education as part of her role as a psychiatry registrar and teaching medical students in both hospital and in general practice.
May is an excellent cook and is known for her elaborate dinner parties and excellent desserts. Her specialty include her tiramisu and pumpkin mascarpone cheesecake.
